you grew so big

Did you not know that I was
merely turning the other cheek?

Being both the hunted victim and
blood-lust transgressor
I had picked my own eyes
out for my own eyes
and I had
no cheek left
for your soft kiss

which is why
I did not see you grow
so big
while I was not looking.
