Is to ask if you or anyone you know will be in New York on either Thursday 16 or Friday 17 of January?
If you do, and you think they might like some poetry in their live/s, then I’d like to ask you to invite them along to a couple of readings that I am involved in with the lovely Betsy Turcot.
Over the coming weeks, Betsy and I will be introducing you to some of the other writers that we will be sharing space with over those two evenings. As you’ll see from the image above, we’re not going to be alone, and for that, we’re honoured and excited. And we’re even hoping to add one more face (clever clogs peeps can look in the performances pages for a spoiler).
Both events are by donation, and there will be books and zines of the respective writers available on the evening, but monetary gain is not specifically Betsy and my goal. I mean, we love to be remunerated fairly for our work, but mainly we like you to value it – and in the most interpersonal way possible – by recommending it to those you know.
I’ve often talked about the specific meaning that I place on the word “sponsorship”, in the sense of vouching for, or giving your good name in favour of someone else’s good name. In this case, for Christmas, we’d like to ask for your good name, hopefully not in vain.
This is the ask before the ask, so don’t be afraid… you don’t have to do anything yet. I’m just dipping the toe in the water. We would be very thank you much yes awesome sweet wow if you did.
