for we are more fractured

Than ever we anticipated.

I have seen you from sneakers and jeans to sophisticated woman of the mind and the world. I am honoured to know you.

Whatever joy I have given you, is unchallenged by the joy you have given me.

Mark your milestones and know that you occupy a territory in my heart that is all your own. In that land, there are cherry blossoms always in bloom, steam rising from a hot bath, glasses clinking with the smoky warmth of scotch, Tim Tams and trash TV, running shoes, fabrics woven with light and hope, every building is constructed from the bricks of sheer determination, the walls are painted gold and it’s always the light afternoon air of summer somewhere in summer.

And the conversation never runs dry.

Happy Birthday, my prickly pear. I miss you.
