I don’t often send it.

But I missed a lot on the weekend. And now I’m making up for lost time.

I say – never let a major rejection get you down. Use it as free time for learning things and doing new stuff and getting your laundry done and remembering that, it’s all good.

Casey. Never let it be said you don’t inspire me. Cos ya do.  Fingers crossed.

Dear Anna,

My name is Eleanor Jackson and I run a very small, very humble blog called “Helmets are Hot, Handsignals Hotter” (www.helmetsarehot.net).

Originally based in Melbourne, but now in Brisbane – I write a mixture of social commentary, cycling tidbits, occasional women’s AFL coverage and random musings on life. Sometimes these relate directly to cycling, but often it’s more about the way cycling helps share human stories and connects you with community.

One of my greatest passions is encouraging more women to ride – in any area. When I lived in Melbourne, I was quietly involved in encouraging women single speed/fixed gear riding with the Sugarspokes (www.sugarspokes.wordpress.com) and now as an individual in Brisbane.

I was in Melbourne recently and saw your OPSM gig advertised at Human Powered Cycles and had hoped to come along – my friend Casey did and I was sorry to hear that there weren’t more people taking up your generous offer of time to share your story.

I appreciate that things are probably incredibly busy for you at all times – but especially as 2012 draws closer.

Notwithstanding that, I thought I would ask you if you might have time for a telephone, skype or email interview?

I’m not a paid journalist, and I’m afraid I couldn’t pay you for your interview, however, if you did have time to chat and Uvex information you would like to share then I would certainly be able to assist with this.  Sometimes my readers are so desperately hungry for interesting helmet information it’s almost embarrassing.

My general interest would be to ask you about your cycling in the lead up to the Olympics (sorry – totally obvious that one) but also about what it is that gives you pleasure and joy about cycling as an individual, and perhaps ways that to encourage more women to participate in cycling, particularly at a competitive level.

And – as always – I’d like to hear about your helmet.

All the very best with your training, and thank you for your time.

Kind regards,

Eleanor

    1. Sigh. She might not. But I have crossed my fingers and set my heart to hope.

My mind is on mute. But my heart is on hope.

  1. the other thing that upset me is that Anna isn’t on the ad.
why is there some “dude” being extreme on there instead of Anna being awesome on her track bike? I don’t know if it would have changed the numbers there, but she SHOULD have been on the advertising. poor form OPSM.

    1. I didn’t want to seem overly critical – but I TOTALLY AGREE.

It just feels misleading – and seems lazy, like they had a stock photo of some dude, and that seemed easier than profiling a great rider.
