there’s no way

That I’ll be getting a new job as a sports journalist, I’m just terribly aware of this.

Which is weird, because my friend Emily says she tries to read my blog, but there’s just all too much cycling for her to handle. Typically, I am ashamed at how little actual cycling, and even worse, helmets are actually featured on this blog.

But I have given it a red hot go in terms of getting Our Emma to Her Games in Adelaide.

Here’s pics which are proof. Thanks must go to Epic Cycles (that’s John there on the left) who were also sponsors of Besty. And to Bicycle Queensland (photographer is out of frame) and then you – all of you – of the very limited but exclusive Helmets are Hot readership for being a part of the dream. To be honest, as I consider this whole sponsorship affair, all I can really conclude is that no one does anything alone. I have never done anything truly alone, nor do I hope to in the future. We are the cumulative effect of a million moments, of tiny shared experiences, of myriad friendships and failures and fabulous hopes.

Can I just say a big thanks to everyone who helped out.

See that – we’re all pretty happy here. Just three people in a massive, interconnected web of happy helpful sponsorship.

I’d draw you a chart of the wonderful interconnections, but honestly, I have some weird stomach thing going on and this is massively taxing me even to type this. I would consider blaming this tray of food which was a part of the jumper presentation, but really, no one else has been struck down. So, probably, it’s temporary cancer.

Allegedly, okay, maybe actually, Victoria has won the last three championships. This is not stopping me from feeling a slight maroon affection. But the week of women’s AFL is launched today and tomorrow they play. I have never before been to a jumper presentation and I have to say, it was considerably better than the Newman College Footy Vote Count I went to once. Considerably.

Given that this was all unfamiliar territory for me, I feel like I need a few days to digest, but I was keenly aware that I have never played a team sport and that there is something quite nice about being in a group of people with a shared endeavour. I don’t know that I’ll ever really play a team sport, but I feel considerably more neutral and even a bit jealous about those who do. It seems like a really positive experience from the outside. Obviously, if you’re terrible at sport and have crap hand to eye coordination, don’t try footy, because as far as I can tell it involves a lot of running around, catching and kicking. But if you’re good at that sort of thing, and you are a woman, perhaps you should play football. I’ll certainly get behind you for it.

And if you are in fact in Adelaide, perhaps tomorrow you shall wander over to City Mazda Stadium, Richmond around 3.45pm to see how the Sunfires shape up against the home ground lovelies of South Australia.

Please inform me if you are. I’ve got a great cheer you can cheer on my behalf.

In the mean time, you can get in the zone.

Or else, you can take it quite seriously and Read the Record.
