blue is for boys? pink is for girls?

Everybody wants to be loved; I appreciate that more than anyone. Or maybe just as much as anyone. I spent last Sunday making really dreary snippets of sixties love songs (god, and singing incredibly flat – my old choirmistress would have been devastated). And I’m trying to write a Mills and Boon somewhere else, in some other life of mine.

I have been thinking a lot of what it means to love, to be loved, how to show it, how to feel it. Oh, and if it helps to see the lead in, sometimes I think about these things on my bike, while wearing a helmet.

In a previous blog life, I was interested in looking up. And I looked up about 183 times over three years. It felt good. I was reminded to do it today.

Then I remembered another strange project I used to be into, with large poems of people.

But I digress – what I really wanted to do is post some more advice, from a man who looks good in Pink. Mr Blakey – a proud, pink wearer of the Sugars cap. A fellow traveller.

I asked him recently…

Hey Nik and Blakey,

Do you have a top ten tips for getting on rollers and not looking like a silly billy?

I have to go in the Brisbane one, because I was a smart alec and then they were really nice. But I need to encourage more women to ride, so I’m looking for advice/support/words of wisdom.

Do you have any of these things? Advice I mean…

No pressure if you are a busy thing, I totally appreciate this!

Hope you are both doing well!

Big hugs from Brisbane,

Perhaps call into Gear and see if you can have a test go on some rollers before the event, so you know what to expect.

Are they fixed fork, i.e. No front wheel, or proper rollers? Fixed fork is easy, no balance required, just pedal your heart out. Proper rollers is a little trickier, but every event I’ve been to has had holders to keep the bike upright if required.

My only tip, stretch first, and do a warmup spin if you can. If you go from cold to flat out on the rollers to cold, you will be hurting the next day.

Don’t sweat it, you’ll fall off much much less than DDCX. :)

SEE THAT LADIES!??

EEEAZZZY…

  1. Your blog entry re: the Brisbane Rollers had piqued my interest so much that I looked into it. Still a little scared, your additional blog entries of encouragement and extra information cemented the fact that I would be there on Sun if only I wasn’t out of town on a cycling weekend. When’s the next event? Well done on your encouragement to get more women involved. I hope other women will turn up to cheer you on and join in the fun.

    1. It is on Saturday? Isn’t it?

OH DEAR IF I HAVE GOTTEN THE DATE WRONG,

I don’t know when next time is – but I will be sure to encourage the people to come alone to it… Maybe you would like to have a ride another time!
