Are fading for us now. Soon the darker days of Autumn will be upon us and the mornings will start cool, but later there will be a light breeze and perhaps, as evening falls, you’ll be thinking “bugger, I need a jumper, and ugh, did I bring lights?”
And you’ll be fondly remembering the days of summer when there were girls on bikes most everywhere, and some of these girls wore great patterned dresses that matched their shoes, and odd little wood-grained glasses and sweet helmets just the mirror-shine tone of sun striking broken glass on the road but it never punctured your tires, and you always had tailwind, and there was a beer waiting at the end of it, and friends you still liked, whose anecdotes you’d only heard once or twice before and they were still funny, and you had a crush on that friend’s girl but you never let on because that would have seemed crap, and it was summer, which is all about falling in love with the wrong person at the right time and the right person at the wrong time and riding your bike and going nowhere and everywhere all at once.
(Sob. I hate winter.)
Awe, winter is ok. I love rugging up, heading out on the bike when everyone else is still lying in bed hoping to stay there and getting the transition from freezing my boobs off to giggling at ice melting from my eyebrows!
Don’t get me wrong, I also love staying snug in bed when I can :)
Don’t you worry! And I’m really trying to get into winter this year – I believe the secret is getting a louder alarm and then leg and arm warmers. And, to be frank, Melbourne winter is really very mild, so I won’t be deterred this time. And I think that getting good stuff for breakfast is a suitable incentive too!
