Today is a rest day; but this should not deter you and me and all the other sports fans from taking life very seriously. But we can both take it seriously and more slowly and more perfectly.
For this we need music. (Don’t be afraid to click, open link in new tab I have tried to do this for you. It’ll keep the hits coming and later, when I realise how to put in the audio plug in, I’ll feel embarrassed for asking you to do this). Read slow. I’m typing slow.
So what happened yesterday?
Okay. We didn’t win. But that’s footy/cycling/life. Sometimes you don’t win. If you won all the time, you would be Lance Armstrong and everyone would assume you were on drugs. Which sometimes you are, but mainly it’s anti-inflammatories and caffeine. Just speaking personally.
But maybe someone just spiked your water bottle? Who cares, you can find your own way home.
Just remember, you didn’t get there on your own; you came with friends, you’ll leave with friends. Don’t expect them to be what you’re thinking of, they just are what they are. Sometimes we underestimate commitment and enthusiasm. I am going to try and learn that a little more each day.
We all need a runner.
And a coach and a manager. And we let those people tell us what to do sometimes. It’s a real skill letting people tell you what to do.
And you know what, I don’t even care if it takes you longer than you hoped to get on the score board, getting out on the god damn field is sometimes good enough for me. If you do not particularly want to discuss this with friends, fine, just screen their calls.
If however, you are feeling totally wrecked, that’s totally fine by me. Maybe a bit of recovery by the ocean is in order. I hear the water is freezing down south. Don’t talk to me about it. I’m heading to Melbourne soon, and I for one can’t wait to go swimming. Here’s hoping this contributes to the ever elusive quality of fresh legs.
For my mind, whatever it is that gets you through the night, is the thing you should go with. For me, I like to see good things just about everywhere if I can. This is my favourite photo that Emma has sent me so far. Although I have been loving feeling like a connected sponsor, and sharing that connection with the other sponsorweb. But without turning into some sappy freaking Pollyanna, let’s get happy. I am working on this for the launch of GDS. Thank you so much to my various editors for letting me know if they want me to love someone, or someone to love someone. Now, as for someone who also packs like UPS trucks.
Betsy – not Besty – who is currently working with me on the Mills and Boon Swoon, for which we are getting ready for the launch of the Queensland Poetry Festival on 22 June. That’s pretty soon, eh? I’m nervous if you’re nervous. Last night we tried to bring our respective game faces to the photo shoot. I tell you what, with a face full of makeup, I look pretty fresh faced from far away. Black Dove. Check it out.
Oh yeah, and one more for the road.
