I told you’d I’d emerge sometime around now. The moon is growing fat in the evening belly, shining out over cold streets with people wearing unfamiliar, heavy clothes.
But in the mornings, people are happy and light and enjoying their rental bikes from Bicycle Revolution and their very cute helmets. I always find these helmets make me smile, like you’re about to go adventuring in the thirties or something. I want to be in the side car of a vintage motorcycle. Maybe with Gael Garcia Berna. Who knows if he’s free this afternoon anyway? If he was, he’d have to be pretty relaxed to hang with me. Or these two cuties that I saw this morning at the West End markets.
Other cuties that I spotted this morning were gals from the Hard Hitting, All Girl, Full Contact Sun State Roller Girls league, handing out flyers for an upcoming bout at the Beenleigh stadium. You should totally get yourselves out there. I don’t really know what better way to start your day than coming across no less than four amazonian style women in fabulous helmets parading around the streets.
I’ve been thinking about moving to New Farm, but some mornings in West End, it’s pretty damn nice.
What are you doing tonight? In a minute, I’m going to rouse myself from the couch and try and make Mim’s fabulous cauliflower soup. Wish me luck. I’m a notoriously quick sticks cook, like, “what, I have to steam the cauliflower too?” But I have bacon and I have gorgonzola so if I ruin the soup bit, I can always console myself with toast.
Then, let’s get out and see some Tassie Treadley. I’ll give you a big winter hug, for I feel wintry hugs for all my friends down south.
