Sometimes you want to find the perfect image of someone, action happening, perhaps rolling away with this giant grin on their face at the Bike Fest excellence. But you can’t… Oh, unless you scroll to around 36 secs. Check that basket.
Other times you want to find an image that sums up the kindness, the generosity, the warmth of spirit and real, sincere friendliness of someone. I don’t know why. There are just times like that.
I could try and find an image of the lovely Lady C near some lyrca – she’s a pretty tolerant Lyrca Buddy, but I’m just thinking that wouldn’t really give you all the spirit of this thoughtful lass.
Instead let me share her special secrets on the rollers – AS YOU KNOW I HAVE BEEN PUMPING IT UP!
my top tips for rollers are as follows:
1. pick a pace and stick to it. just pick your cruisy commute pace that you know that you can easily hold for 400 or so metres and add about 15 percent…. just stick to that and hold it.
2. ALWAYS accept a holder (this is also an excellent opportunity to chat to new people).
3. Pick a good spot about a foot in front of your face and hold it to balance. just focus on that spot and your rhythm.
4. I found that wearing a nice top helped with my confidence. wear something nice that you feel comfortable and know you look good in. this will also work with the nerves (in the case of my catastrophic thinking brain: “if i fall off- i’ll look nice!)
5. DON’T TAKE IT SERIOUSLY! it’s fun. ride it like you would any allycat or any commute – with a sense of fun and and adventure. that’s why we ride these contraptions and participate in bike related activities – it’s supposed to be fun. In that god-awful footage of me on the rollers all i can really see is the smile on my face. that’s why i like it.
(I also feel like some red lippy might help.)
