one good post deserves another

You are coming on Saturday? Aren’t you?

PUHLEASE!

If you are… I share with you my advice… I asked Mr B. I went to the leg spin source and asked the Source of Fuck, the New Comer, the Me Me Me Bike fellow and here’s what he had to say… (If you’re looking for other advice… you should follow that link). Otherwise, I insert the kindly information that Brendon provided to me recently…

No Rock N Roll Fun

Hello Brendon,

I wanted to ask your advice about rollers. Can you help with any advice? I don’t even ride fixed. What if I fall off? How are skills required for roller racing? Will I have to train? Should I flip over my back wheel in anticipation? The bikes are stuck to the machinery. Naturally I have one week in which to prepare.

HRH

Hi HRH,

Riding the rollers is really, really easy – especially the rollers with fixed forks. You seriously do not need to have any particular skills or training or kind of bike at home. The bikes are usually locked down incredibly firmly – I’ve seen people so drunk that they are almost incapable of standing who have been able to ride those rollers. You will not fall off. Just remember to keep pedalling once your race is done – slow down gradually!

If you want to win, however, you will need to get your legs used to spinning really, really fast. There’s no real resistance when riding the rollers, so you don’t need any strength in your legs. You just need to be able to spin. And this is easy to practice out on the road – instead of coasting down hills, just try to keep a little pressure on the pedals the whole way down. At first you’ll find you’re all over the shop, bouncing around and pedalling really awkwardly, but eventually you’ll become smoother at those high cadences. If you have gears you can change down to the smallest ratio in order to make it even more difficult.

AND THIS ADVICE WAS FREE!

It’s nice to have a conversation sometimes; there are people out there who are doing funny playful things, being who they are, loving what they love, having wives that tolerate but don’t understand and yet still love.

See this photo here? It is not the best most beautiful picture of mister Ah Blakey (he does take some nice ones), but it does show Mr B, and Ms S, and RadICAL ComRADe CHoong and MCNAMBES and hot stuffs everyone else – is that Hilary? Who the hell knows. It looks a lot moreeeeeeeeee fun than where I was at that night. What the hell was I doing that night?

Oh yeah, thinking Eddy Merckx was coming to Melburn Roobaix. Who cares? I’ll be coming. And I will get my entry in early, to avoid having to embarrass myself this time around.

Smile on crazy diamonds.

PS I saw the sky again from the plane today and I have to say, it’s still something incredible to me. To see clouds, to see the sunset. To have those nice people bring you cheap champagne and bad raviolis, and let you do it all while seeing what God (if s/he should exist) must have seen.

AND THE LOVELY WONDERFUL JULES GOT A BIKEEE!!!!

Rad.
