Sometimes all the threads come together, sometimes they all come apart at the seams.

It’s a month til I see Taylor Mac, and while I am fairly certain the content of this year’s show will be different to his last offering, what that reminds me of is never to be ashamed of your influences. I probably haven’t had any poetic thoughts that didn’t come from Canada.

We’re trying to get things white as snow
All of us woe-begotten-daughters
In the steaming stains
Of the Magdalene laundries

Tomorrow, I’ll be sharing beautiful space with Zaia Kendal, a student of the local musical legend Lindsay Pollack, who uses her Malletkat with sound modules and mixers to create loops and layers and syncopated rhythms – a one woman band that has to be seen to be believed, as a part of Alchemy at the Brisbane City Library. Step out from the day to day and be somewhere different.

Prostitutes and destitutes
And temptresses like me–
Fallen women–
Sentenced into dreamless drudgery …

Then on Saturday, I’ll be Turning Style with Lisa’s Cancer Research Fundraiser. Details as follows:

Thus far we have been madly fundraising for the Queensland Institute of Medical Research on behalf of Lisa and Adrian in conjunction with the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Now we are throwing a party to celebrate our achievements and Lisa’s recent remission status!

Hosted by Darkwing Dubs with the musical stylings of The Winter of Reason, Michelley and Ruth & Davina PLUS stunning poetry from Eleanor Jackson and Doubting Thomas and our guest of honour LISA KEEGAN will be on Skype from 5:30pm to say hello to old and new friends who haven’t been able to see her since her diagnosis!

*If people are interested in performing or showcasing their work just PM me, the more the merrier!

ENTRY:$10
SAUSAGE SIZZLE: $2.50
SOFT DRINKS: $1.50
BYO ALCOHOL
Children of all ages are welcome.

This is still a fundraising event so all entry and food sales will go towards the kitty while all performers are donating their talent and time on the night. For those still wishing to donate we will have a donation can on the night :-)

Why do they call this heartless place
Our Lady of Charity?
Oh charity!
