So, I know that I said I was going to take a break. In fact, taking a break seems to be the order of the day.
And, from time to time, I have myself been wondering what the hell this blog is even about. Admittedly, I am as narcissistic as the next person, arguably, even more so – since you’d kind of have to be to even start writing a blog. I’ve got about four. But still, I have been questioning the value, the purpose, the use and the worth of being a very non-famous, not all that interesting, kind of average fitness rider and then blogging about it.
And, from time to time, I realise that this takes both quite a lot of time and energy to maintain and I don’t know that I do the very best job at doing so. Having had a rather busy month or so, and been considering what must give in order to take, I have been considering closing down this blog. Might just give us all a break.
But still, I have to admit that I am – in some strange way – obsessed by cycling. Or more precisely, cyclists. I am happy riding and happy talking to others about their rides.
And somehow, since I worked out how to use the analytics thing, some 14,798 visits came from 87 countries to read about precisely nothing that was kind of a little bit related to both cycling and/or helmets. And given your traffic source, I pretty much think I have met you either in person, or you met someone who met me in person. Which is a strangely nice thought.
The other four thousand of you are really random google people.
Anyway, all of this seems a rather roundabout way to get to the point of telling you that although Brendan is going to stop helping out with cyclocross so that he can be a better professional rider, I am going to start riding more so that I can be a better unprofessional writer about riding. In the great consolidation effort of 2011, I have to say helmet peoples, you made the cut.
I am always complaining that I’m not fascinated by things, that nothing quite moves me, in the way that I admire and – dammit – envy about a lot of people. Yet, I hadn’t quite realised that I’d posted some four hundred plus times here, so I’m guessing, I’m into something enough to keep on going.
I just wish I knew what this something was.
Either way, I’m undertaking – as best as my limited skills, times and resources allow to do whatever it is that I do here better.
I’m keen to get to know you. I want to know who’s who in the zoo, as my colleague says.
To that end, I’m going to ride more. Wherever, whenever and however I can. And then I’m going to introduce myself to you.
First stop is Gap Creek – next week.
Oh, and when I’m done being longish term obsessed with cycling, I am going to be shortish term obsessed with the latest hit being pumped at lounge room disco.
